Farské Marshes
The mysterious peat bogs hidden deep within the forests of the Český les Mountains are among the most valuable natural sites in this region. The Farské Marshes offer a glimpse of a wild and largely untouched landscape where water, peat, and forest reign supreme.
The Farské Marshes are a nature reserve within the Český Les Protected Landscape Area and represent one of the most significant upland peat bogs in this part of the mountain range. Their distinctive character is shaped by waterlogged spruce forests and valuable bog pine forests featuring the bog pine, a rare species typical of peatland habitats. Peat has been forming here for centuries in an environment where cold, water, and a lack of oxygen slow the decomposition of plant remains.
The Farské Marshes are not a destination for typical tourist attractions. It is precisely their mystery, tranquility, and sense of untouched nature that make them so intriguing. If you want to experience the Český les in its wilder form, the local peat bogs are among the places worth visiting—though primarily from the marked trails and with due regard for the protection of this valuable natural environment.
