Pilsen's Historic Underground
The tour of the Pilsen Historical Underground, which began in the Brewery Museum building, was constructed beneath the city center starting in the 14th century and, at 20 kilometers in length, is one of the most extensive underground systems in the Czech Republic.
The nearly 800-meter-long tour route will guide you through a labyrinth of passageways, cellars, and wells. Thanks to the exhibits—most of which were found in local wells—you’ll also gain insight into the secrets of everyday medieval life, learn how ice and food were stored in the past, discover the role the underground played during sieges, and explore the historic waterworks from the first half of the 16th century—the best-preserved structure of its kind in the Czech Republic. In addition, visitors over the age of 18 will receive a “pivník” at the end of the tour—a voucher that can be exchanged for a 0.3-liter glass of Pilsner Urquell beer at the restaurants Na Spilce, U Salzmannů, or the tavern Na Parkánu.
