The Observatory in Rokycany and Pilsen
Take a fresh look at the sky and set out to explore the stars, planets, and the mysteries of the universe. The observatories in Rokycany and Plzeň invite visitors of all ages to observe the sky, listen to fascinating stories about the universe, and embark on an adventurous journey of discovery into the world that begins high above our heads.
At both observatories, you can view the Sun and objects in the night sky through astronomical telescopes. When the weather permits, you can observe the Moon, planets, star clusters, galaxies, or nebulae and learn fascinating facts about what you’re seeing in the sky. If the weather isn’t suitable for observing, the planetarium program takes center stage. In addition, the observatory organizes lectures, astronomy clubs, programs for children and schools, and other themed events.
The Rokycany Observatory is located on Osecký Hill on the northern outskirts of the city, approximately 12 kilometers east of Plzeň, while the Plzeň Observatory is located on U Dráhy Street. A visit is a great choice for families with children, curious day-trippers, and anyone who wants to broaden their horizons and pause for a moment under the real starry sky. And if you’re truly fascinated by the universe, you can also join astronomy clubs, preparatory courses, or other activities offered by the observatory.
